Scott Pilgrim vs. The World

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World
Genre: Action, Comedy
Starring: Michael Cera, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Kieran Culkin, Chris Evans, Anna Kendrick, Jason Schwartzman, Aubrey Plaza
2010

Review
This movie is pretty well put together. The visual effects are great. The cast is good as well. With appearances by Chris Evans (Fantastic Four, Not Another Teen Movie), Jason Schwartzman (Slackers, Rushmore), and Aubrey Plaza (Funny People, Parks & Recreation). If you are a fan of the comic books or the video game, you should enjoy this movie. Although, there will always be those who say, "The comic books were way better than the movie." The action scenes were well choreographed and there were not long drawn out boring parts in between for the most part. Some criticism is directed at Michael Cera for playing the lovable loser, again. He fits the character well, does a great job, and was a great choice for the role. This film was much better than many probably expected, given the history of horrible movies based on video games. Even the success of comic book based movies could not balance it out. Nicely done.

I'm Still Here

I'm Still Here
Genre: Comedy, Mockumentaries
Starring: Joaquin Phoenix, Casey Affleck
2010

Review
This film has good parts and not go so good parts. Part of the humor is knowing that this whole time Phoenix is messing with everyone. There are definitely parts that seem to be drawn out and tedious. When something funny happens, typically it is funny enough to make up for any tediousness beforehand. It is not really important to be a Joaquin Phoenix fan to enjoy the film. It does a good job of showing how the media turned on Phoenix when he had made the announcement of his retirement from movies. The editing of the movie does a good job of pointing out the way someone can be admired one minute and a media outcast the next. This movie just fell short in aspects that are crucial.

Inception

Inception
Genre: Sci-Fi, Psychological Thriller
Starring; Leonardo DiCaprio, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ellen Page, Michael Caine
2010

Review
It is hard for a film to receive a perfect score in most cases. Typically, there can be something, even if it is just one thing, that stops a movie from getting that perfect rating. It would be difficult to find that one thing in this movie. Even if something was considered, it would be a reach at best. The movie received a lot of hype which even puts it at a disadvantage to those who saw it later on. Hype is extremely hard to live up to in most cases. Also, many have said that it was confusing at parts which did not seem to be the case. It is complex but not so complex that a person can not keep up. The story is great, the cast is phenomenal, and the execution is as good as it gets. This film gets the elusive perfect score.

Predators

Predators
Genre: Sci-Fi, Action
Starring: Adrien Brody, Topher Grace, Laurence Fishburne, Danny Trejo, Alice Braga
2010

Review
If you liked Predator or Alien vs. Predator or any of those movies, you will like this one. Sometimes a movie will come out with hype around it due to the previous installments. This movie does not really disappoint in comparison to some other horrible films that have attempted to ruin a film's legacy. The cast is pretty well put together. Some might think Topher Grace does not belong, but he fits well. It is loosely tied to the original starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, and is closer to a sequel than Predator 2 in a lot of people's opinions. This movie should be recommended to anyone of the Predator series, or sci-fi films in general. Die hard fans of the original will still stand by the 1987 film.

Mirrors 2

Mirrors 2
Genre: Horror
Starring: Nick Stahl, Christy Romano
2010

Review
Mirrors 2 is the sequel to Mirrors which starred Kiefer Sutherland and Amy Smart. The DVD version is unrated and has some graphic content. However, some of the parts containing gore were not exactly well done. The story is similar to the first Mirrors, if you have seen it. Overall, not a horrible film, but not stellar. It would be understandable if people found this movie scary, but understandable if not. The fact that is difficult to come up with things to write about for the review should illustrate how the movie is lacking in some areas.
